Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols told the story of meeting Martin Luther King early in her TV career, and him telling her, …“You are changing the minds of people across the world, because for the first time, through you, we see ourselves and what can be.”

You are probably not a world-renowned actor.  But you do have other people around you.  Others who see what you are accomplishing; others who see that you have kept going even when it was really hard.  This “seeing” adds to your Journey’s relevance and importance.

You know you are shaping your goals into a Hero’s Journey, but others may not know that consciously, but they are absorbing the story of your Journey nonetheless. From Jung to Campbell, many believe, like me, that the Hero’s Journey is in the collective unconscious.  Is it in our genes? Who knows? But the persistence of the same mythological themes across the world’s cultures over thousands of years, can’t be denied.

As a part of the Hero’s Journey, the final stage is Returning to the Village with the Magic — sharing your message with others. This you will do deliberately to bring the end to your Journey, taking it a full circle.  But it’s just as important to let others see you get through the struggles, stare down the nay-sayers, and persist toward your goal no matter how long it takes. It’s important that you are another person, albeit a small one, who adds to the Hero’s Journey in the collective unconscious.
