When you set your goal as a Hero’s Journey, you think that you’re prepared for all of the stages: your own initial resistance, the people who trip you up and push back at you, and what promises to be a long hard slog. You know there will be tests and trials. You know that’s part of the deal to be sure that you’re on a Journey for real.
When you’re right in the middle of Tests and Trials, though, and the poop is hitting the wind device, you’re thinking, “Not again! I just got through the last problem.”
Remind yourself: Trials make you sturdy. And once you’ve gotten through each one they’re proof you are sturdy.
The trials remind you that you are sturdy.
Time for a definition. Sturdy: physically strong, robust, and solid. Endures. Tough to knock down. Doesn’t wear out.
Maybe you don’t think that sounds like a compliment, “Wow, she’s sturdy!” But it is. Fragile will never make it to the end.
That these trials have proven your sturdiness is a thing to remind yourself of whenever a new one starts. One must be sturdy to survive and then thrive during a Hero’s Journey.
