New Year (an Arbitrary Date) but it’s What We’ve Got

It’s a new year, but let’s not start with a giant goal — let’s look at what you can control as you start your Hero’s Journey.

“There’s nothing you can do that’s more important than being fulfilled. You become a sign, you become a signal, transparent to transcendence; in this way, you will fine, live, and become a realization of your own personal myth.” — Joseph Campbell,  Pathways to Bliss

No resolutions for this year. For me, I’m going to concentrate on the day in front of me and take at least one step a day toward that which keeps me fulfilled. If I concentrate on being completely true to myself and what keeps me happy, I will be a part of what helps others be happy, too.

It’s simple, and it makes sense.  If I’m happy, I don’t snap at others.  I’m more patient.  I don’t take out my pain on others who have no idea what’s going on. I’m not up in my head and distracted from listening to the person I am speaking with.  I have my attention on the task in front of me when I’m happy and fulfilled. If I’m happy, I’m present, because there’s no where else I’d rather be. I know my actions won’t end up being considered selfish or egotistical, because I’ve gotten to the point where I’m pretty happy doing simple things and helping others.

How about you? Wherever you are in the stages of the Hero’s Journey, whatever your next step is be sure it’s something that fulfills you.
