What if I Pick Wrong? What if I go Down the Wrong Road?

When I was learning to drive, my dad would have me drive “out in the country” and away from traffic.  He had an amazing sense of direction and also taught me the logic of road numbering and naming. (It’s not random?!) He used to say, “All roads lead to Rome” when we’d end up a little farther away than expected.  That proverb can mean many things, but when he said it to me, he meant: Don’t panic. All roads connect to other roads, and with a little effort and time, you’ll be back on a road you know.

I read a little bit of SARK’s Make Your Creative Dreams Real the other night and one part stuck with me. She said, “I’m a recovering perfectionist who is often afraid to “choose the wrong thing.” so I don’t choose anything, thinking that will keep me safe. Safe from what?

Whatever goal or dream you’re using as a Hero’s Journey, whatever you pick, you can change your mind at any point. It’s OK. You have permission (not like you need it) to do a U-ey, turn left, turn right, or stop by the side of the road at any time on your Journey.  The magic of your Hero’s Journey is you will still get to the place you are meant to be.  Guaranteed.

If it feels right, change your mind, go down that new road.  You can’t pick wrong as long as you keep going.
