Did you ever go to party that you really didn’t want to attend?

Do you ever say, “I’ll go to the gym tomorrow,” then not go?

How about, “I can stop smoking/drinking/eating/shopping any time I really want to.”?

Flipping the questions around, can you answer those questions above truthfully?  Do you respect yourself and your Journey enough to answer honestly? The challenge of speaking to yourself without lying and consistently acting in alignment with your truth is going to come up many times on your Journey — at every stage.

I propose a radical New Year’s resolution:  Love yourself enough to make sure you’re always telling yourself the truth.  It’s probably going to be difficult, but it will totally be worth it.

So, how do you do make sure you’re telling yourself the truth?  How do you stop lying to yourself?

1. Slow down.
2. Inhale, exhale and notice how you feel.
3. Make a statement about yourself, e.g., “I am really stupid; I should have seen what he was really like.”
4. Inhale, exhale and ask yourself, “Is that true?”
5. Notice the answer in your mind and notice how you feel in your body. (How you feel is the key!!!)
6. Restate as the truth, e.g., “No one can know everything.  I am doing the best I can with the information I have.”

Here’s another example:

1. Slow down.
2. Inhale, exhale and notice how you feel.
3. Make a statement regarding doing something you’re not sure of, e.g., “I want to go to Gail’s party tomorrow.”
4. Inhale, exhale and ask yourself, “Is that true?”
5. Notice the answer in your mind and notice how you feel in your body. (Again, how you feel will tell you instantly!)
6. Restate as the truth, e.g., “I don’t want to go to another holiday party. I am not going to go.”

The more you tell yourself the truth, truth to others will then come more and more easily.

Resolve to do these truth exercises deliberately at least three times a day!  Notice any time you feel discomfort in your body as an opportunity to seek and say the truth.
